Thank You For Being a Friend is a tribute to the wildly successful 1980s sitcom, The Golden Girls. We are producing camped-up and exaggerated (“camplified”) verbatim stagings of classic episodes.

Casting will be non-traditional. All roles are open to all ages, genders, and gender identities. Ultimately, every part is a drag role, whether cross-dressed or not. Shoulder pads and caftans are always drag (obviously).

The Golden Girls aired on NBC from 1985-1992, starring Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty. It was a story of friendship between four mature women sharing a home in Miami, navigating life together. The Golden Girls was topical and progressive, courageously exploring aging, sexuality, grief, living with purpose, family, and especially the nature of friendship. Its popularity endures because of a winning combination of sarcastic wit, deep heart, and the chemistry of its talented cast.

Our aim is to capture the spirit of the original, to honor its creators, to put our own unique spin on it, and to make sure that everyone (us included) has A GREAT TIME. We hope that you will join us.

Auditions will consist of some group play/improvisational exercises, then cold readings from the script. Auditions will take place at Maple Street Dance Space, 3215 Central Ave. NE, in the back door studio, at 5:30 pm on Sunday, September 29. We anticipate 3 distinct casts for 3 half-hour pieces.

Please email revdrew@bosquecsl.org if you’d like details about the specific episodes we’re staging, character descriptions, and a rough idea of rehearsal commitment.

Rehearsals will begin in October — it is likely that at least one of the pieces will rehearse during the day. Thank You For Being a Friend performs at q-Staff Theater in East Downtown Albuquerque, on November 15, 16, and 17, 2019.
